Integrated ADSL on the 5ESS-2000 Switch
This solution lets you integrate ADSL directly into
your 5ESS Switch, enabling you to match service
with demand, without an expensive overlay. The
5ESS Switch — Integrated ADSL solution is DMT
and ATM based allowing you to provide ADSL,
POTS and ISDN all from the same system. It
supports both full-rate and Lite ADSL using the
same line card, with Lite being available through a
firmware upgrade. It saves money by eliminating the
need for separate, costly voice trunks to carry voice
traffic between off-switch devices and the
5ESS-2000 Switch.

Instead, integrated ADSL on the 5ESS-2000
Switch is supported directly on a line/trunk unit,
where narrowband voice traffic is handled by a
regular POTS line card. There is no need to
provision a TR-303 voice trunk and no need for
additional passes through your main distribution
frame, which reduces installation and maintenance
costs. In addition, with an integrated solution, you
benefit from savings in costly floor space and utilize
the efficiencies of one power source.

SLC® LinkReachâ„¢ Access System
Lucent, together with Westell Technologies, Inc.,
have developed a plug-in ADSL solution for our
SLC-2000 and Series 5 Carrier Systems. The
solution is based on DMT line coding and ATM
transport protocol and is capable of being
configured for full-rate o r Lite ADSL service. The
solution consists of Central Office based equipment
that provides the interface to the data network. It
includes the DSLAM LinkReach Access System, a
standalone DSLAM for the Central Office, and an
ADSL channel unit and statistic al multiplexer
located in the SLC remote terminal. Each channel
unit contains two ADSL lines per card and fits into
three vacant SLC channel unit slots, so you can use
your existing power source and minimize your use of
floor space, with no need to purcha se more real
estate or expensive cabinets. You can put your
spare capacity to good use delivering ADSL in
those low-take-rate areas without expensive
overlays.

For Service Providers that want to integrate ADSL
into their SLC Systems and have a 5ESS Switch,
we also offer the 5ESS LinkReach Access System.
The 5ESS LinkReach System provides the flexibility
to provide ADSL service from the same shelf to
both customers served out of a Central Office or
from Lucent's SLC System. The 5ESS LinkReach
System is another Lucent and Westell, Inc. solution
enabling Service Providers to easily and
cost-efficiently offer ADSL service on the 5ESS
Switch. It incorp orates ATM packet switching and
DMT encoding schemes and supports both full-rate
and Lite ADSL. There is common equipment
between the DSLAM LinkReach Access System
and the 5ESS LinkReach Access System providing
additional cost savings opportunities by eli minating
the need for different types of equipment supporting
different service sets out of the same Central Office.

DSLAM LinkReach Access System
For installations that require new equipment, you
can choose Lucent and Westell's stand-alone
DSLAM LinkReach System. It incorporates ATM
packet switching and DMT encoding schemes and
supports both full-rate and Lite ADSL. It can handle
either CO or RT applications with up to 42 lines per
shelf (252 lines per system). As with all Lucent
ADSL systems, the DSLAM LinkReach Access
System will utilize the same CPE and Element
Management Systems.

Why Lucent?
We put your business first. And we know your
network like nobody's business. Our innovation
arm, Bell Labs, pioneered DSL technology and
holds several of the earliest and most fundamental
patents related to it. Lucent systems support millions
of lines throughout the world. Together, we offer
you high-speed data solutions that will deliver
performance your customers can rely on.>
