I believe Camino is going to offer baseline audio, an updated version of MMX. It will take care of the low-end where Creative has little business but is probably still a far cry from things like SB Live or even AWE64. We will have to wait and see. So far, industry watchers like Tom of Tom's Hardware have called Camino just another excuse for Intel to sell their fast-becoming-irrelevant-even-more-powerful chips. I doubt consumer reaction will be very hot, nobody wants to be locked into Intel's roadmap forever, especially not PC OEMs who are already breaking away from Intel.

Intel has to watch the low-end where the action really is. PC penetration is now nearly 50% in the USA, from about 45% end-97, thanks to cheap PCs. That's where the growth really is. BTW Tom Kurlak has just upgraded AMD to Accumulate from Hold, and upped his forecast to US$1.55 from US$1.00. Now, didn't I say AMD was a better bet than Intel, like two months ago? Intel has peaked and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Camino is pushed back to end-99.
