Dell cuts workstation prices 3 NOV 98

ROUND ROCK-Dell Computer Corp. on Monday (NOTE: November 2) cut prices on its workstation computers by as much as 16 percent as the nation's second largest personal-computer maker passes along cost savings on the microprocessors that run its machines.

Dell cut its Precision Workstation 610 that used Pentium II Xeon processors to $4,839 from $5,761. Dell also introduced a new low-end workstation with the Pentium II chip starting at $1,997.

Intel Corp. cut prices on its Pentium II and low-end Celeron chips by as much as 29 percent last week, which is spurring price reductions by manufacturers.
