Thought I'd add this link. Although not a cure for Diabetes type 1, maybe Diab II can aid in regulating sugar levels thus less complications from the disease.

A cure for Diabetes is goal for $6 million research partnership

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease that affects more than 2.25
million (one in 20) Canadians, many of them children. Sixty thousand new cases
are diagnosed in Canada each year. It is one of the leading causes of death by
disease in North America. Without early diagnosis and regular treatment,
diabetes can lead to serious complications such as blindness, nerve damage,
heart disease, stroke, kidney failure or amputation. Diabetes occurs when the
body does not use sugar properly. In Type 1 diabetes, the beta cells of the
pancreas are destroyed by an autoimmune reaction and produce little or no
insulin. Treatment requires daily, life-sustaining injections of insulin, a
regulated diet and daily exercise
