Kmart Launches Online Music Shopping
TROY, Mich., Nov. 16, 1998 /PRNewswire/ -- Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM -
news) today launched a new music Web site offering more than 100,000 CD and
cassette titles at www.musicfavorites.com. Developed jointly with the Handleman
Company [NYSE:HDL - news], Music Favorites expands Kmart's presence on the
Internet with e-commerce sites offering
consumers a variety of product ranging from vitamins and fitness products to products
for the home as well as special promotional items, and new music. Music Favorites also
can be accessed through www.kmart.com.
''Kmart's new music Web site builds on our goal to provide online shopping destinations
that offer value and respond to the interests of the online shopper at Kmart.com,'' says
Marisha Geraghty, Kmart divisional vice president of Internet commerce. ''Online music
lovers will find their favorite artists and music at Music Favorites, and they will be able
to listen to sound clips for many titles. Music Favorites customers may choose titles
from eight music categories -- Pop, Alternative, Rock, Country, Jazz, Urban, Blues and
Classical. Product searches may be made by artist, title or type of music and customers
may listen to sound clips using Real Audio.
Special promotions, such as free posters with purchases, and the ''Favorite of the Day''
artist featuring CD or cassette selections at special prices will encourage online shoppers
to browse Music Favorites.
Kmart launched secure online shopping in May 1998. Kmart.com now features an array
of specialty shops geared towards unique individual interests. Among them is a health
and fitness site, www. familyandfitness.com which began offering vitamins, fitness
equipment and related health products in August 1998. In September 1998, www.
kmartdirect.com debuted offering some of the same specials featured in Kmart's weekly
newspaper circular. In October 1998, www. finallyhome.com joined the site featuring
household products for new homeowners. Customers also may access these shops at
www.kmart.com. which features gift certificates, online coupons, and an ''About Kmart''
section featuring investor information, company history,
pharmacy facts, a tour of a Super Kmart, credit card application, store locator, celebrity
information and other corporate related information.
