Smart Investor,

Do you think your AMZN example (using a pure revenue comparison) works without comparing the margins and potential margins of the two businesses?

AMZN, it seems to me, will never have robust margins because a book is a book and a CD is a CD, and as a retailer your markup is severely constrained by the presence of other retailers (especially in the on-line world, where the next retailer is a bookmarked link away). If, OOTH, YHOO succeeds in being one of a small number of dominant Internet portals with millions of daily viewers, well, advertisers can only spend their money where the audience is.

I agree that both companies are overvalued, but I think AMZN is more so.
