Hi Dwight - PMFJI. Is it possible that Novell has engaged in creative accounting, aka financial engineering, to make the numbers look a little better this quarter?

Curious that Dr. Schmidt refused the invitation to appear on CNBC this morning.

"...Royalties from the licensing of Tuxedo transaction processing software totaled $36 million in fiscal 1998. A $12 million payment in the fourth quarter marked the end of these royalties..."

10/31/98 354,105,000
* The Company has always reported net income per share on a diluted basis. The calculation of diluted net income per share includes the effect of common stock equivalents such as outstanding stock options, while the calculation of basic net income per share does not.

Looks like a 7,978,000 share reduction instead of 21 million shares?

This quarter's earnings are approximately 170 percent of last quarter; $0.07 x 1.7 = $0.119. Hard for me to believe. Hope someone does a full analysis of this last quarterly report. Salah was very good at pointing out the weak parts of their reports. Wish he was here.

Regards,

Elmo
