I'll jump in here, since I support Intel's Paragon supercomputer line. The operating system of the supercomputer is based on OSF Unix, while the OS of the "diagnostic station", which actually boots the supercomputer, is standard SCO Unix. Sandia developed SUNMOS, which has been ported to the Paragon and is used by Sandia to run some of their applications. However, the majority of Paragon installations don't used SUNMOS.

BTW, I think technology transfer agreements between U.S. industry and the government are a bargain for taxpayers. Just think where we'd be today if ARPA had kept a tight grip on the Internet technology in its infancy (a lot poorer, I imagine!).
