drag-and-drop to CD-RW still unavailable for macintosh?

"random erase" with fixed packets, enabling intuitive file
write & erase operations to UDF 1.5 volumes, was rumored to
exist via:

- MacOS itself

- Adaptec DirectCD 2.0

- other third party drivers

yet, MacOS 8.5 came and went with read-only UDF 1.5,
adaptec is totally mum on whether DirectCD 2.0 will ever
make it to the macintosh, and firms like Software Architects
claim ignorance about mac drivers for other than DVD-RAM.

in addition (as i too use a yamaha 4260 / apple combination),
drivemakers themselves don't seem to feel responsible for
providing this software.

since much content is developed on apple equipment, quicktime or
otherwise, i find it hard to believe that the market is
too small here, as millions of increasingly interchangeable
erasable CDs approach $5, readable on any iMac...

please feel welcome to post here any industry gossip about
timetables for enabling such a basic function.
