Well, it's at least $50/month for the Level-II data from NASDAQ, so that's a constant. As far as the rest, the main advantage is being able to direct your trades. The daytrading firms I looked at are not a safety concern, since they don't actually hold your securities - they have a clearing house that does so, and they would pretty much need to be SIPC insured. Dunno anything about Block. I'd be curious if someone else did?
