I find Merrill's advice "accumulate for the short term, buy for the long term" somewhat confusing. Is that to say that if one were to stumble upon shares lying on the ground or someone offering them for free, one should accumulate them if one wished to sell them tomorrow? Only pay money for shares that you intended to hold forever? Gotta love broker terminology...
