I looked for the Merrill Lynch report when I got home this evening and it is not on their client web-site yet. But yesterday Joe Bellace wrote the "Data Networking" report for September, 1998.
Newbridge was not mentioned in the text, of which there was little. But the Market Share graph showed NN with 21% vs. ASND's 18% of the ATM WAM Switch market and remained the same from Q2 to Q3. CSCO and Nortel each gained a percentage in Q3 over Q2, with Other going down by 1%. Yup, the chart adds up to 101%.
The other interesting facts was that "Price per Port" went up from $6,702 in Q2 to $6,713 in Q3, and the forecasts for market size of ATM WAN Switches is $1,258 for 1997, $1,860 for 1998E (up 47.9%), and $2,293 for 1999E (up 23.3%). It is always better when the competition is not causing the price per unit to fall and there is sector growth. The data indicates we have both.
Nice day. Let's hope it continues.
