thomas - hi, long time no see ...... yes, I think we are an adaptable species and we'll muddle through just fine all in all. Sure there will be problems on 01/01/00, but as you point out in your post to Ted, there are problems all the time. Most jobs are just a continuous series of problems to solve - that's certainly the case with my old day job as a logger - if it isn't one damn thing it's another, and working things out becomes a matter of routine. We lost our power here last night because trees blew down on the lines. Works fine now. Having a moderate stash of food and candles and fizzy beverages is just normal prudence anyway.

What I can't see in the y2k fear thing is a good reason to expect it to influence the PoG. Not that I'm saying it won't - fear is often irrational and the strongest fears are of the unknown - but I just can't see it as a logical fundamental mover of gold. Grinding on about it as such makes goldbugs look ridiculous, imho. There are good and sound reasons to expect a recovery, like the coming Euro/US$ shift mostly, and then possible signs that long-term downward manipulation may be about to ease ..... on that Bill Murphy has a piece today #reply-6569136 ... which I take with a grain of salt to counteract the hyperbole, but find interesting just the same.
