Nokia supplies STM-16 technology to ISIS, Germany for network expansion
November 26, 1998) - ISIS Multimedia Net GmbH, one of Germany's leading fixed network operators, has signed an agreement with Nokia to further expand its STM-16 fibre-optic transport network. Deliveries are scheduled to begin immediately.
The expansion will give ISIS additional transmission capacity to accommodate increased demand for future services. Nokia's Synfonet STM-16 technology allows four times the throughput rate of the existing STM1/4 network.
"We have been happy with the performance of the Nokia Synfonet STM-1/4 equipment which we have been using in our network," says Stefan Begall, team leader, broadband technologies, ISIS. "This additional upgrade will answer our further upcoming needs in the same optimised way."
"This deal is a continuation of the co-operation Nokia has enjoyed with ISIS. The expansion of their transport network strengthens our goal to develop products which meet customer and market needs." says Mr Jörns Haberstroh Managing Director, Nokia Telecommunications GmbH. "Nokia's fixed accesssolutions give operators flexibility to develop and upgrade their networks quickly, to meet demand."
ISIS is a joint venture of the West-German National Bank and two public utility companies. In November 1996, ISIS was licensed by the German postal ministry to build up and operate a private company network covering Dusseldorf and the surrounding cities.
