France OT - My wife tells me there is a history to why France mistrusts the U.S. During WWII the US backed Giraud instead of De Gaulle when De Gaulle was in London trying to get credibility for his Free French. Giraud gained credibility by allegedly escaping from the Germans but he may have been released by them. So DeGaulle spent most of the war in London with the US thinking he was a nobody. Churchill tolerated DeGaulle much more than the US. Guess what happens then when France emerges from the War with DeGaulle as President? He spends a lot of time trying to establish an independent foreign policy from the US. Tom
