1. It should not be forgotten just how close the Germans were to gaining decisive advantage in WWII. And how much stronger they would have been had they not had Hitler as a leader or at least involved in any the general staff.

2. The central theme of the French for the last 45 years has been to get a 'gang' together in much the same way as a cowardly schoolyard bully does. They knew from the start the close relationship between the UK and US and they have worked just as hard as Saddam has, if not harder, to neutralize that friendship.

One of the most important elements that the French needed was a common European foreign policy and they have almost got precisely that.

Make no mistake that is the strategic target of the French to eventually isolate the US. They have almost nuetralized the UK and are therefore a considerable way towards their goal.

Just watch and see.
