Tero: You are one for the ins and outs of handsets, so....

I was just flicking through a UK mobile magazine (What Cellphone) and came across the NEC DB2000. The reason I am remarking on it is that it claims to have up to 12 days standby time (288 hours)!!! Could hardly believe it! Of course it is data capable and dual band as well. Any explanation in how they squeeze that much out of it?

BTW The magazine listed only 50 different phones on the market(for GSM 900 only, they missed a few that I know about). Would love to know how that compares to other countries?

Impromptu world comparison of phone costs, let's compile a list:

Costs comparisons (since you were recently in the US). Example prices of (cheapest and highest) Motorola and Nokia GSM phones:

Motorola d170 at £5 (yes, about $7)
Motorola StarTAC 130 £200 (under $300)
Nokia 3110 £10 (under $15)
Nokia 6110 £130 (around $190)
And the flagship and best looking phone ever,
Nokia 8810 £400 (under $600) (I want one)

Dual band phones (some are "badged" by the 1800 operators)
Ericsson (900 and 1800) and Bosch World (900 and 1900) dual-band phones are around £100, but the Motorola cd160 dual-band (900/1800) can be had for as little as £10 (the up market Monte Carlo is £100 and mid range International 8800 is £30). Nokia's 6150 for £100

Analog (only 8 listed in the mag)
All between 0 and £50 (most £5 or £10)

How do these prices compare to elsewhere?

Interested to know if you saw the Bosch World phone on your recent travels?
