The fuel cell MAY disappoint in the small portable device area. I'm going to be watching to see just what will be involved to make them practical in this use. They work best on hydrogen gas, although I understand that methanol might be a choice of fuel. Somehow, this flammable fuel will need to be replenished, unless they figure out a way to make a cell pre-charged and then make the whole fuel cell disposable. In energy density, nothing would probably come close. However, a long-life lithium polymer battery may be better suited because of constructional simplicity and ease of recharging by plugging it in.
