yes..Lucent wants to take on Cisco. By buying coms that gives them the best chance in doing so. Coms has an excellent product set and offers a pretty good end to end story. In this scenario as far fetched as it seems to some people here, LU would be the initiator not coms. Remember the AT&T take over of NCR afew years ago..? I Also agree with you that coms might be able to do it on their own but it would be a lot harder after a couple of mega mergers in this sector.
