vepoc,
Well, of course I could be way off base on my analysis, but this is my reasoning:
The reason I think that CPQ and DELL would move in opposite directions (short term - short but swift) is that these two companies and their "followers" have set up a scenario wherein there will be a winner and a loser in the battle to be #1. When the "war" is over, it will not be viewed as one company is #1 and the other is #2 - it's winner or loser. Both desperately want the #1 position and have been very vocal about it. You don't see this kind of testosterone spewing going on with the other players. Haven't read what goes on on the other threads (except a little DELL ) but I can't see GTW, HWP, MU, or IBM jajajajajaja - ing each other the way CPQ and DELL do. Yeah, this is all psychological but psychology moves stocks more than fundamentals - HWP is a good example of this.
I'm not saying this is the way it has to be between CPQ and DELL, but most people don't have the insight of a rudedog. I more liken CPQ to IBM than to DELL - at least I hope that's the direction CPQ plans to take.
As far as timing goes, it's not that difficult. That's why I started learning TA. When I started trading I bought all the right stocks (based on fundamentals) at all the wrong times. I bought while stocks were basing - dead money for weeks on end. I bought at tops and sometimes had to wait months to get my money back. I bought when stocks were down thinking I was getting a bargain and then watched the stock tank after I bought. TA is by no means infallible but it certainly has improved my track record. As far as the way the market in general will move, charts of the DOW, NASDAQ and S&P are no different than charts of individual stocks.
When CPQ BLOWS OUT 35 on BIG volume, I will be on this thread going DING DING DING DING.
