Sid: Your remarks remind me of stories, I heard nearly 75 years ago, about the ubiquitious "Model-T". It too was deemed to be a failure according to findings by engineers, some who stated a couple decades earlier, that the engine would never operate, As I remember in the nineteen-twenty's it seemed every 9 out of 10 cars was a Ford. It appears that good ideas don't die, they just get better.
