Nokia's CDMA phone

Before people assume me an anti-Nokia bigot I need to confess substantial admiration for the company, its product design and (most of the time) its execution. This being said, my experience with the current Nokia CDMA phone has been quite poor. Mine has never been stable and it has been back to GTE five times for "software upgrades". Standby-time is poor and talk time..believe it or not..has been very erratic. Worse, the phone is plagued by dropped calls and call failures.

Digital coverage is weak in the area surrounding my home in Naples. My new Q800, which doesn't have an external antenna, generally shows one-to-two bars inside my home. My QCP-800 does a little better, with two-to-three bars while the Nokia registers one-bar to no digital signal. Beyond the sensitivity issue, I know several other people in town beyond myself who complain of excessive dropped calls and call failures...so I suspect a systemic problem that likely involves Nokia's proprietary chip set. Our corporate GTE representative has confirmed that there have been "customer satisfaction" problems with the Nokia CDMA phone.

If my assumption regarding the chipset is correct, then this would explain why Nokia has been rather slow to roll out additional CDMA-related handset products. I am curious whether others have had a similar experience with the Nokia phone.

Best regards,

Gregg
