Ellen, I know a lady with one of those yappy little toy dogs that looks like it would fit nicely into a hotdog bun. For a long time I used to wonder why the dog yapped continually at anything and anybody, and used to attempt to please it, to calm it down.
Then I realised that that was futile, gave up, and ignored it. That worked better.
