Kenya, you did capture the whole thing (interview with Jim Carlton of WSJ). What you related here does sound good for the PC manufacturers for the season. Still, it did seem like he harped on that "$400" PC a lot, like 266 MHz Cyrix, 16 MB, 2.1 GB, 56K. My opinion is that if people think packard Bell PCs are poorly assembled and are at or near the bottom reliability wise, wait'll they get ahold of one of these. 2.1 GB drives are long out of new production, have been "around the block" a few times and reside in the grey market. That all adds up to poor for reliability. Re the memory, 16 or 8 MB SIMMs to make up the 16 MB, have also probably been around the block a few times and are also poor compared with new 64 MB DIMMs, e.g. The motherboard in that thing? I wouldn't dare ask. Cyrix MPUs? Don't get me started.
It seems to me that the quality PC manufacturers, that use quality components, and I'm sure have serious quality programs, ought to stress the Q word, and also reliability more.
