Thought I'd forward this interpretation to president Rick Boulay to confirm, and being the dedicated diehard he is, and fortunately for us, he was able to respond promptly with the following:

"Wrong! The identified components are not weathered/altered at all. They are beautiful, pristine crystals. Most of the volume/weight of the core samples is made up of fine grained iron-, magnesium- and chrome-rich clays which are products of near surface alteration. We believe, based on the chemistry that the original minerals were olivine and pyroxene, but we are not certain."
