Greg, Don't know why only 1 year - actually I think it said up to 1 year although it is renewable. Greg, this is not a distribution agreementas I understand- they just realized they had a symbiotic rrelationship-P+G realized they would sell moore Helidac if there was a fast easy cheap way to diagnose H pylori, and Quidel realized they could get the word out on their testuch faster through a powerful motivated sales force like P+G's, than through their regular channels-I doubt we will see abbott partner w/ Quidel in any way- Abbott "stole" QDEL's biggest distributor about a year ago when they entered exclusive distribution agreement w/ PSS, also abbott has a competing H. pylori test i think.
Re competition-there are many companies either with an H. pylori test (CMTR, SKB, Meretek) or working on one (TRIBY)-but QDEL is the only one w/ a CLIA waiver from cdc-they can sell it to any dr in the country for use.
HOme use?? - who knows, although I know QDEL would love to get into this market.
Re post treatment monitoring-if symptoms persist or unsuccessful H. pylori eradication suspected (perhaps because of a strain resistant to metranidazole)-the breath test will be used for follow up or endoscopy.

This is good news and it will make a lot of $$$ for QDEL
