I don't know what China you are imagining existed before this generation but since the communist takeover "Texture, subtlety, delicacy, innuendo, grace, romance - all the softer things" have been utterly squashed. It started (a generation or two back) by burning all the books and smashing all the antiques that weren't smuggled out of the country and ended with smashing the heads of anyone with an education- not much subtlety and grace in that. As for the rest of what you say- all generations seem to believe that the new generation is worse. Human nature being what it is I suspect we stay pretty much as we are- nasty and brutish.
