If you are referring to the Quebec ,they were invited into confederation in 1867 not as a defeited state,I dont understand them wanting to leave again ,I dont think it will ever happen ,
I FOUND A REPRODUCTION OF A MAP PRINTED IN 1690,copied from the archives in Ithaca N.Y. It called NEW FRANCE ,EVERYTHING IS French right out till it joins NOUV ESPAGNE,and NOUV MEXICO,
I found it very interesting
