PARTNERSHIP WITH DREAMWORKS CONSUMER PRODUCTS FOR THE PRINCE OF EGYPT
Nashville, TN, October 1998 -- Tommy Nelson and Thomas Nelson announced a multi-year publishing agreement with DreamWorks Consumer Products for the animated feature film The Prince of Egypt scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 1998. The deal grants Tommy Nelson the rights to publish five titles for children and Thomas Nelson the rights to publish two titles for adults based on the animated feature film.
"We believe we have an unprecedented opportunity with DreamWorks in taking the story of The Prince of Egypt to families everywhere in homes, schools, churches and libraries, and re-introduce this timeless story of Moses to a new generation," said Dan Johnson, Executive Vice President/Publisher, Tommy Nelson. "We are honored to have been chosen to assist in bringing to life in book form this inspiring story."
Tommy Nelson will publish five books which will be inspirationally based and beautifully illustrated with artwork from The Prince of Egypt. The titles include The Exodus: Moses' Story from the Bible, The Prince of Egypt A to Z, and a three volume The Values Series (Obedience, Faith and Courage) based upon characters in the movie. Authors including Chuck Swindoll, Eric Metaxas, Stan Jantz, Bruce Bickell and Mary Manz Simon have been secured to work on the five titles.
"In selecting our publishing partners and book formats for The Prince of Egypt, we set out to develop a program with broad appeal," comments Anne McGrath, head of publishing for DreamWorks Consumer Products. "Our publishing plan with Tommy Nelson is designed to answer consumer needs for books that interpret the film's themes from Christian perspectives."
Tommy Nelson will also work with other companies in bringing additional licensed products based on The Prince of Egypt into the CBA marketplace including additional book titles from Penguin Putnam and music titles from Provident Distribution and DreamWorks Records. "Tommy Nelson will work with DreamWorks to create unique and exciting point-of-purchase materials to bring all licensed products together, as well as a parents guide to the film which will be distributed in CBA stores," says Dan Lynch, Vice President of Marketing for Tommy Nelson. The Prince of Egypt display and merchandising kit are scheduled to ship along with all product by the end of October. The street date for the soundtrack and two inspirational albums is November 17, 1998.
The Prince of Egypt tells the story of two men - one born a prince, the other born a slave . . . but only one was chosen to lead. The film stars the voices of Val Kilmer and Ralph Fiennes as Moses and Rameses and also brings together the vocal talents of Sandra Bullock, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Martin, Helen Mirren, Michelle Pfeiffer, Martin Short and Patrick Stewart. Helping to tell the story are six new songs written by Academy Award®-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas) and a score composed by Academy Award® -winning composer Hans Zimmer (The Lion King). The film is directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner and Simon Wells.
