In all my investing lifetime (going on 15 years now), I have seen only one stock mania that even comes close to this, and that's The Great Year 2000 Panic of 1996-97. Every stock with a whiff of a relationship to the year 2000 problem was bid up to the high heavens. The better known ones (ALYD, DDIM, VIAS, etc.), didn't really run out of steam until the beginning of this year. If the same pattern follows, we may have another year or so of this. One possible wet blanket: if 1998 Internet Christmas sales are not up to expectations.
