>>Diamond Max 2500 Plus Hard Disk from Maxtor<<

This family of disk drive sounds very good on paper and reviews. Here is my own experience.

I just bought a 10GB of such a disk, spinning at 7,200 RPM, to replace my old WD 825MB EIDE which runs fine. To my utmost surprise, this new hard disk has trouble working in my system. Yes, I spent almost a week tracing the problem back to this hard drive.

The symptom is that it causes Windows 98 to lock up every time this hard disk is accessed. The safe mode runs fine.

My system consists of Asus P2B motherboard with 440BX chipset, P-II/450, 128MB PC100 RAM, STB Velocity 4400 AGP video card, Adaptec AHA-1520A SCSI ISA controller with a ZIP drive, Boca Research 33600 Modem, 32X generic UDMA CD-ROM, and ATX case.

If this HD does not work with Windows 98, it has no future. This company has no future.
