I was at Best Buy in at the Lenexa/Overland Park, KS border yesterday (they're suburbs of Kansas City, MO). I dropped in to get the $10 Quake2, but while I was there I checked out the video card aisle. There were only 3 3Dfx cards left on the shelf - a Quantum Banshee and 2 Quantum Obsidion 24 meg cards. There were a fair number of TnT cards on the shelf.

I hate to see empty store shelves during the Xmas shopping season. You need stock on the shelf to get sales.

I also read through all the computer adds in the paper this week-end. Almost all the cards advertised were 3Dfx with STB V2's at $100 after rebate and Banshee's at the same price after rebate. The only TnT card was going for $200.

This may move a bunch more V2's, and I'm wondering if the cardmakers are being very aggressive to clear out stock for V3's. Again, the bad news here is that the V2 cards are much less expensive than the TnT's so that may mean that they can no longer command any sort of premium in the retail market. The good news is that every sale is another Glide customer and Diablo2 with Glide enchancements will help here as well.
