[delayed reaction]

hi kevin,

are you still around?

seems like mr. market has thought about dspg some and decided upon further reflection that the last cc while not a blockbuster, was ok and so here we are back at the "old support" of 18+...

nice quiet rise from 13... looks like we're poised for the 20's..

some (delayed) thoughts on the last cc...

first, that dspg hit their numbers without korea, was pretty good.. another even more obscure stock i have been following got creamed when their korean (telecom related) business dried up.. noticed recently some of their korean business is in the pipeline again... would think moving forward, dspg might be in a similar situation... wouldn't that be a nice "bonus"? .. ;)

also especially liked the comment from the last cc that "looking at gm for the qtr 52% gm.. increase of 3% compared to the same qtr in 97... this is primarily due to the movement of center of gravity of our business towards the ip business or licensing... "

this was followed up on in the q&a .. (questioner gets a gold star for perseverence and dspg gets one for clarity on answer):

after a lengthy cycle of question/response:

"let me ask you a different way.. i understand that there are different parameters that lead you to be able to book revenues either immediately or over the next couple of quarters depending on all the things that you described, but given that i was in for slightly higher licensing and royalty revenues i was wondering to what extent not knowing those parameters or not knowing which of those licensees either the new ones that i mentioned or the previous licensees from q1 or q2 have reached the different hurdles ... i was curious whether there remains a nice unrecognized licensing portion that will be booked in q4 and q1? or did you get the bulk of these revenues somehow booked already in q3 and that is what was contributing to the 3.8 million dollars?

maybe i will try to answer it in a different way.. or maybe i will try to rephrase your question.. do we have a big backlog for the coming quarter? the answer is yes..

that was one way of answering it...

also for the next year..."

and this theme was followed up again later on:

"how much do you see licensing backlog up compared to the june quarter? (quarter to quarter)

we are still much more than one quarter backlog .. we didn't mention a specific number and we are not going to say more at this time...

looking at our models and i am assuming other models on the street are the same... we are looking at licensing increasing quarter on quarter as we go out in time... does that mean that backlog is also growing?

yes..short answer huh? .. :) "

til later
