Slightly. Your drive doesn't go any faster, but they don't take up as much CPU time. So it would only be noticeable under circumstances when that CPU time would be better used elsewhere. Like if you were doing 3D rendering while you where copying files or something. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

DMA problems have been a chronic problem with Windows. Most likely, your IDE cable isn't well-shielded enough. Read the last four or so columns by Livingston here to troubleshoot:
