The announcement last week by ISI to provide immediate availability of pRISM+ for pSOSystem for the new Motorola MPC8240 is a significant demonstration of ISI's continuing commitment to the telcom/datacom market.

pSOS is the first and only RTOS available for developing applications on the MPC8240 after Motorola announced the MPC8240 at the Embedded Systems conference last month. The MPC8240 integrates the functions of five chips into one featuring a 32-bit PCI interface and low power consumption to provide a very cost-effective solution for high volume datacom devices. ISI has a long history of closely working with Motorola for telecom/datacom solutions such as the QUICC, PowerQUICC and PowerQUICC II integrated telecom/datacom chips.

ISI's pSOS roots are in the telecom industry and ISI gets 50 percent of its revenues from telecom datacomm industry. Even customers using competing RTOSs with pSOS come to ISI for networking support such as ISI's industry leading Envoy SNMP network management tools. ISI's Epilogue networking tools group supplies the most complete and advanced set of network management, routing, HTTP, and internet standard protocals. ISI also provides network security, remote monitoring, and Web-based network management tools optimized for embedded performance and memory footprint. ISI is also developing pRISM+Comm, a complete development environment focused on needs embedded communications device developers.

The MPC8240 announcement should be heartening to ISI investors. It is yet another example that ISI is a treasure house of embedded networking technology. With marketing getting back on track and a new CEO by the end of year, things are looking up at ISI.
