Dell Computers ;
Yep, thought I'd get to the topic of what this company makes rather than the Internuts, just for a second anyway :-)
I've just spent some time looking comparatively at a reasonable high end config (that a friend is looking to buy). 400 - 450MHz, DVD, 128Mb ram 12MB or so disc, Zip drive, 17 inch monitor. Whichever way I cut it, Dell comes up better than all the other big names, but surprisingly to me anyway, also the smaller names you see advertised in mags. Not having bought a PC myself for a year, I had somehow assumed that whilst Dell might beat CPQ HP etc on price, those small guys must have something going for them, such as lower prices or better specs maybe.
But here in the UK at least, the answer is not. Dell is coming out about £100 to £150 cheaper on a £1500 system, which is about 7% to 10% cheaper for the same or even slightly better spec. And please dont you US folks annoy me by pointing out the same spec in the US would be 50% cheaper at least. I know that :-(
