Many people use the term "Q" phone to represent any QCOM model. That is one source of confusion. The "Q" phone is a specific QCOM model. QCOM offers the QCP-800, the QCP-1900, the QCP-820, the 1920, the QCP-2700, the "Q"-1900 and the "Q"-800. (we'll soon add the pdQ-800 and pdQ-1900 also).
Many people refer to Dual Mode and Dual Band as interchangeable terms. That is a second source of confusion. Dual Mode refers to two modes in the same spectrum, one mode being digital, the other being analog. Dual Band refers to two bandwidths, 800 Mhz (Analog) and 1900 Mhz (Digital). FYI, notice that the QCP-2700 is an 800 & 1900 Mhz phone, which when added together totals 2700! The QCP-800 is a dual mode operating at 800 Mhz only, and the QCP-1900 runs at 1900 Mhz only.
While there is a "Dual Mode" Q phone, the "Q"-800, and there is a 1900 Mhz single band PCS Q Phone, the "Q"-1900, there has yet to be introduced a "Dual Band" Q model phone, which I presume would be named the "Q"-2700.
Sprint does run a 1900 Mhz (also refer to this spectrum as PCS) only network. When you use your QCP-2700 off the digital, it roams on another carriers analog 800 Mhz network.
