Re: Paul & Gnosticism Elaine Pagels (the indefatigable historian of Gnosticism) has a book out, entitled: "The Gnostic Paul : Gnostic Exegesis of the Pauline Letters." I must confess I have not read it, but it no doubt deals with the oft-bruited theory that the author of the Pauline epistles was a gnostic initiate. Elsewhere, Pagels has maintained that (I quote)"what we have in the New Testament may have come down to us via the gnostics and especially the Valentinians, who were particularly devoted to the Pauline epistles."
