Sometimes, during a crash, the index files for your Netscape mail can get corrupted. Try this ...

If you've had a crash it might be a good idea to run ScanDisk, assuming it didn't already run automatically when you re-booted.

Make sure all Netscape programs are shut down, including NS Notify if it's in your Start-Up Folder.

Using Explorer, go into your Netscape/UserName/Mail folder.

Delete all the .snm files in that directory. These are the index files, Netscape automatically rebuilds them (if needed) when you next successfully start Messenger.

Try Communicator or Messenger again.

If you are worried about deleting files, then just move them temporarily into your "TEMP" folder or the "ReCycle Bin" so that you can move them back if you want.

One reminder ... if the above procedure works and the contents of any of your mail folders changes (i.e. you receive new mail, delete old mail, or move mail from one folder to another), DON'T move back the old .snm files because they will be out of date and cause you more problems. If your mail works, Netscape has successfully re-built these files and it's best just to delete the old ones at this point.

If the above doesn't work, something else to try is to delete the "popstate.dat" file in your Netscape/UserName/Mail folder. This file also gets automatically re-built when/if necessary.

Good Luck!
