Once again, jim, thanks. The URLs included some heavy reading for a Sunday night. Like many such articles, they raise more questions than they answer for someone like me. But, at least part of my question was answered, namely that an xDSL terminus must be at a CO, not one of our 'remotes.' However, it seems that there may be other DSL solutions that could apply to this area, and even in more high density areas. Once again, cost to implement is the main consideration, and it would appear that an affordable solution won't be available to me in the near term.

BTW, I checked into the possibility of using the satellite/POTS hybrid with PCDirect, and for my use, it is too expensive. At least, it was several months ago. Perhaps I should check again to see if they have revised their rate schedules and local dial-ups.

later,

jim
