Hey, I can get you an old Pentium for about 500 CDN and a usable 486 for about 250 with monitor, a 486 notebook, TFT even, for about 300 to 400. Printers are cheap. A scsi drive can be had for about 50 bucks, controller for about 35 and Linux will cost you 30 bucks at the most. KWICHERBICHIN. There is even a source for practically free computers for students although I forget the link. There is also a source for student software in California although we don't want to talk about that here, and many many free modelling and other scientific programs specialized to faculty on the net. There is a free geology software site. The reason I mention Linux is much of the free software for the disciplines is compilable fortran and the like which "runs" on Unix systems under the GNU compilers.
