November 30, 1998, Issue: 1037 Section: News -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allies Set Pact On 3G Phones Five global standards bodies will meet in Copenhagen Friday to form a Third Generation Partnership Project that will pursue common standards for third-generation cell phones based on the GSM switching and radio-access technologies the five bodies support. The group includes the European Telecommunication Standards Institute, the U.S. T1 standards committee of ANSI and standards groups from Japan and South Korea.
