There are three things in this world: faith, love, and self-interest.

Some would argue that faith is part of self-interest.

Some would argue that love is part of self-interest.

Noone could argue the opposite in either case.

I think that faith and love both derive from self-interest. The need to feel whole with someone or something else seems to be the central theme in both cases, which is just a piece of self-interest.

Paul's letters are based upon a self-interested principle in which he was attempting to bring all the churches of Rome under his umbrella of jurisdiction.

Most Christians believe what they do because of Paul. I ask all Christians present here this question. Paul, like any human, was infallible. What if he is wrong with his interpretation of Christ's life, death, and resurrection? How is his interpretation any better than mine?

I also present this question: Socrates had to apologize to the city for the so-called "atrocities" he imposed upon it. Do you feel that the Roman Catholic church should apologize for the "atrocities" imposed in the middle ages?

A ninth century bishop had stated: "Religion is just a popular way of getting across what ancient philosophy had already pointed out."

I tend to completely agree with that.
