Stunning the heart refers to ischemia or other insults to the heart that have a negative inotropic effect immediately post surgery (but ultimately reversible hopefully). The bypass using CTSI does result in some ischemic time as the LAD is clamped while the anastomosis is made, however, formal bypass results in myocardial stunning as well which is potentially more severe (especially if the bypass time is long). The ischemic time with the CTSI technique is supposed to be less than 5 minutes.
