**OT ** Marginmike - Don't forget that if the French pimpel hadn't shown up at Yorktown there would be no US of A. It would be a colonial outpost of the British Empire. Since then, I admit, the French have not exactly ingratiated themselves to the US. One can also argue that the intervention in the US war for independence was done by a former regime (a royalist one) and the current French Republic should receive no gratitude for this.
