Hi all further report this time from NCN
November 30, 1998, 17:31 GMT: AFP reported on November 30 that Rwandan forces operating near Nyunzu, DR Congo, have received orders to stop in place, terminate plans to attack, and abide by terms of a ceasefire. A Rwandan officer told AFP he will fight only if attacked. As a result, there is a lull in fighting in this region. Aerial bombing by Zimbabwe has reportedly been stopped for two days. It is not clear how the Congolese rebels are reacting to this decision, although the Rwandan indicated he was under the command and control of the Congolese, so it is presumed the Congolese rebels have stopped in place here as well. This is, in all candor, a surprise, as there has been so much confusion surrounding the Paris Franco-African summit cease-fire agreement. NCN will continue to monitor and advise. |
