David,

I am a holder of two small profitable positions in Ballard, however I fear that there is little time for this technology to become solid enough to become any kind of alternative before Y2K. If there is a severe decline in the availability of petroleum based fuels and the hydro electric power grid is snafu, the fuel cell will just be a dream of what could have been... .Because the nuts and bolts and power to put them together will be in such short supply.

Such conditions certainly aren't conducive to investing in the stock market, hence Dr Yardeni's pronouncements of a meltdown. I submit that people will not be able to get their minds off their personal misery: cold homes, food shortages etc to be entertaining themselves with speculative bets on elusive technologies like Ballard's in a stock market that may indeed not be functioning too smoothly.

I hope someone will be around with money in the Spring of 2000 so that I can cash in my puts.
