How about close involvement with the (former) RS6000 team in Austin? Any thoughts as to why IBM shut down that group and cancelled many of the programs? That's not ancient history...

Well, uhh, I work in that group here in Austin and thats news to me. Should I be worried ? <G> We have lots of development going on from desktops to super computers. They did move our manufacturing line to Rochester, Minnesota a couple years ago if thats perhaps what you are referring to. And it has also been publicized that we are striving to have a common hardware platform with AS/400 to keep hardware development costs down, but the OSes will remain separate. So it is true that the product plan is more streamlined and focused than it has been in the past, and thats good,
but its no less broad in covering the entire range of the server market as well as some targeted high end workstation business in the client market.

As for AIX, they are currently hiring people to help with the port to Merced and follow-ons. No cancellation in site there either. Sorry..
