I will check with my sources to get their opinion as to the AIX future. Maybe you are right although it would be a very big secret within IBM if they have plans to phase out AIX. The evidence that they are phasing out AIX would be that IBM would have some Solaris code running on RS/6000. But maybe they have even kept that behind closed doors.

It would be a very big secret. Not only that - I would think it would be a huge mistake because the customers would abandon the RS/6000 as a hardware platform and move en-masse to the SUN hardware. WHY, because as a customer I would say to myself, "If IBM is dropping their AIX support on the RS/6000, how much confidence would I have in investing in RS/6000 for Solaris? - I would rather commit to a Risc platform that is being supported by an OS."

It would be a huge market strategy mistake Rude! The death of the RS/6000 would be right behind the death of AIX.

I'm sorry, I just cant believe that IBM would make such a huge marketing mistake.

But I will check.
