Theif is so much Fun!
I finally got around to playing thru the demo on Sunday. It's got so much to do, you'll love it! You can use rope arrows that allow you to climb up the rope to the next floor to get thru a window, instead of taking guarded stairs to get the jump on your opponents. There is great sword fight, bow&arrow controls, and plenty of climbing, jumping, swimming, ducking, not the annoying type of TR3, just enough to get you there. There is a limited map feature, quicksave, and you can look around corners with your head, so the guards don't see you. After you finish the mission, you can play it all over again, and try to kill as few, or as many guards as possible. I played it the second time by knocking out each gaurd and locking them in a room that requires a key to open. It was funny every time I opened the door to dump another unconsious guard in, all the ones that had already woken up try to come after, but by then I had closed & locked. When I played it the third time, I killed ALL the guards, which is HARD, because you have to lure them away from each other by getting them to investigate distracting sound you make coming from another direction. Once most or all are dead, you'll have free raign of the place, to check every nook and cranny for treasure and secrets, that illude to future missions of theft. If you have one of those fancy sound systems on your PC, you're really gonna love this game. I'm even thinking of buying Theif instead of Heretic2, since it's gameplay is so refreshingly different then your typical shoot'em'up. I have no doubt that Heretic is a much more beautiful game graphically, and having both weapons and spells at your disposal makes for much more variety of play then most Quake2, but Theif's got an interesting twist to it. Oh, what's also nice in Theif is you can buy more weapons and ammunition between missions with the gold you steal. Anyone know if Eidos is gonna distribute MYTH-2? I was a BIG fan of MYTH last year. MYTH-2 looks great, but if you have the first one, it's just more of the same, like TR3 is to TR2... |
